Banish the dust in your home

Posted by Amy, 24 February 2021

We all get dust in our homes but what actually is it
and where does it come from?

Dust is made up of lots of different particles which come about from our daily life, including; dead skin cells, hair, carpet fibers, lint, dirt and more! The particles collect over time and form dust which coats surfaces or settles in places which don’t often get disturbed. You might find a lot of dust under your bed, behind your furniture and definitely inside of your radiator.

Why do we get more dust at certain times in the year?

When we spend a lot of time inside we get more dust. This is because we’re creating more dirt, shedding more skin cells and hair, and disturbing more fabric fibers, which all settle into dust.
You may notice that you get more dust in your house over winter - when you’re stuck inside because of the cold and wet weather!

Unfortunately, none of us have spent more time inside than in the past year. With a national lockdown in place and restrictions on travel we’ve all been stuck inside making our homes dustier than ever!

Why should I even be worried about dust?

You may be thinking, well if the dust is in places that I don’t touch in my house then why does all of this even matter?! Dust can have a negative effect on the air quality in your home, meaning that you and your family are breathing in air that is carrying a lot of dust.

In turn this can have a negative impact on health and wellbeing. Also, dust can aggravate and even cause allergies in some cases thanks to tiny dust mites that live in the dust, leaving sufferers with symptoms just from being sat home.

Pro-fibre cloths

So, what is the solution to this?

Dust your house regularly! It might sound like an obvious solution but this is the best way to tackle existing dust, and by dusting regularly you can keep on top of new dust building up.
Microfibre cloths are a great way to dust furniture and units around your home. The micro fibres grab and trap dust particles so you can be sure that you’re not leaving any behind. Then once you’ve finished, you can easily wash the cloths to use again and again!

For harder to reach areas the Radiator Buddy is perfect. It’ll help you get high up areas such as ceilings, fans and cupboard tops, and can even be bent to suit the shape of what you're dusting.

Radiator Buddy

The Radiator Buddy is also perfect for getting into those hard to reach places such as between your cupboards, in your towel rails and inside your radiator. A lot of dust can gather in and behind your radiator as it’s never disturbed so it’s really important to make sure you’re getting that excess dust.

As with the microfibre cloths, the
Radiator Buddy attracts dust like a magnet and traps the dust between the fibres so you can make sure that you’re not leaving any behind.

Make sure that you maintain this and keep harmful dust at bay by dusting your house at least once a week.
